Throughout the season, what seemed like an exciting clash between El Fabiolo and Jonbon, poised for a compelling battle, has lost its spark for me. Jonbon's tendency to let his season fizzle doesn't help.Champion ChaseNow, it feels more like El Fabiolo versus the contenders.
On the whole, El Fabiolo is expected to stand out for being efficient and effective, leaving the question of who else can deliver a show-stopping performance for the remaining podium positions. Jonbon hasn't made things easy for himself this season, appearing hesitant and uninterested in jumping fences, for one reason or another.
Considering that, once final declarations are made, it will be critical to scrutinize these 'betting without' markets or any extra place markets for insights on rival contenders.
Given my unfavorable opinion of Jonbon and his existing status as second-favorite, opportunities in those 'betting without El Fabiolo' markets could hold significant value.
Strategically, look forward to a well-paced race—the kind tactics that Edwardstone thrived on in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury, and even if he deviates, Jonbon and Elixir De Nutz won't want a slow race, ensuring an engaging pace.
A prime-form Captain Guinness could capitalize on such a scenario; he's delivered strong performances in the last 3 Cheltenham Festivals—unfortunate in the 2020 Supreme but still a formidable presence.rdin the 2021 Arkle and 2ndin the 2023 Champion Chase.

Edwardstone emerged as the joint 7/4 favorite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase after narrowly losing to Editeur Du Gite in the Clarence House Chase.
The nine-year-old couldn't quite catch Gary Moore's pace-setter at Cheltenham on Trials Day after Ascot's original date was scrapped. With only a head separating them, Alan King's contender heads straight to the Festival now.
Editeur Du Gite experienced a dramatic slash in the ante-post betting market, shifting from 20/1 to 5/1 suddenly. Punter's hopes are set on him repeating his front-running tactic at the Festival, with bookmakers being more conservative this time.
Last year’s energising Champion Chase winner, Energumene, shifted from a firm 8/11 favorite to a 9/4 second favorite after taking third in Clarence House but is seeing renewed support and contention for the top spot.
Before his Trials Day defeat, Tony Bloom's capable nine-year-old enjoyed three consecutive wins, offering a beacon of certainty for his many supporters and bettors.
In a recent Off The Fence episode, ex-jockey Barry Geraghty highlighted the differences between courses for the Champion Chase, saying:
The main alteration is the Champion Chase taking place on the Old Course and not the New Course, which I always viewed as a primary concern for Energumene. The New Course demands more stamina which better suited the former winner.
Editeur Du Gite skillfully executed his ride under Niall Houlihan, maintaining a balanced pace before accelerating. Both Energumene and Edwardstone appeared keen. The Old Course's sharp, quick nature may see Energumene settle into his rhythm more effectively.”
Gentleman De Mee has joined the Champion Chase discussions by defeating Blue Lord in the Dublin Chase at the DRF.
The seven-year-old showed his mettle as a Grade One victor at Aintree last year when he successfully outperformed Edwardstone, giving him a genuine prospect heading into Cheltenham.
Blue Lord, owned by Munir and Souede, once unbeaten this season leading up to the DRF, saw odds increased to 5/1 following Gentleman De Mee's confidence-denting victory.
While it may seem premature to discard any contender's chances in the Champion Chase, Blue Lord will need to make significant strides at Prestbury Park.
Beyond the original top five in the betting market, there's a noticeable gap leading to the next runner, Greaneteen, positioned as a 14/1 shot with most bookies.
