Debate all you want about whether Lossiemouth should be participating in the Champion Hurdle or not, but the reality is, she has a potentially less challenging opportunity to try and secure the Mares Hurdle.

I use 'potentially' because one could convincingly argue that the Mares Hurdle possesses much more depth and includes several genuine Grade 1 winning hurdlers. Some of these Grade 1 victories have come solely in mares’ company, but this year’s Mares’ Hurdle looks highly competitive.

I am not entirely convinced that Lossiemouth has as much of an advantage over her competitors as the market currently suggests. She is likely to face the strongest challenge from competitors within, as four other contenders, including Gala Marceau, Ashroe Diamond, and Echoes In Rain, all have genuine prospects at their best.

Nonetheless, my general impression of the field is that many haven't been in the fine form witnessed last season throughout most of this current campaign. Gala Marceau, Echoes In Rain, Love Envoi, You Wear It Well, and Maries Rock are all performing below their peak levels seen in the past 12-24 months.

The contender that catches my eye most, for possibly already holding the finest form in the competition, is Ashroe Diamond. She has progressed commendably through last season and made significant strides from her seasonal start in the Hatton’s Grace, securing victory over an unsuitable 2m at Doncaster.

Her current best odds of 7/2 lack substantial value, but I’m hopeful that 9/2 or 5/1 each-way with an extra place will be available post-declarations, as that would hold considerable allure. I'm also staying alert for information about Telmesomethinggirl, as she hinted at Naas last time, when outpaced by Champion Hurdle entrant Zarak The Brave, that she still possesses the drive for medium-length hurdling…

market, making it an excellent recommendation now, while there’s still an opportunity to bet.

And if Lossiemouth indeed joins the Champion Hurdle 40 minutes later, Joyeuse could comfortably start as the favorite for the Mares’ Hurdle. I certainly believe she should. Anything over

at this moment would constitute a sensible wager in my judgment.

There's ample room for debate about Lossiemouth's participation in the Champion Hurdle, but the reality is she has the option of tackling what might appear an easier objective by vying for the Mares Hurdle.

I mention 'might appear' as Mares Hurdle could arguably have more substance and accomplished Grade 1 competitors as well. Though some Grade 1s were among mares only, this year’s Mares’ Hurdle is shaping up to be highly competitive.

I'm not entirely convinced that Lossiemouth’s lead over her competition is as substantial as market predictions suggest, and she’s likely to meet considerable resistance from the rivalry within. Notably, contenders like Gala Marceau, Ashroe Diamond, and Echoes In Rain need to be in peak form to forge legitimate challenges.

However, most of the field seems a bit off last season's peak form during much of this campaign. Gala Marceau, Echoes In Rain, Love Envoi, You Wear It Well, and Maries Rock are all trending below past accomplishments.
