Chester Racecourse, affectionately referred to as the Roodee or the 'Island of the Cross', holds the honor of being featured in the Guinness World Records as the oldest continuously operating racecourse, dating back to its inception in 1539.

This historic venue is autonomously managed by Chester Race Company Ltd, which is also in charge of the Bangor-on-Dee racing grounds.

In a landmark move in 2012, Chester Racecourse pioneered its proprietary wagering service, ChesterBET, thereby replacing the former Tote service at the venue. Notably, this locale also recorded the earliest instance of a horse racing prize in Britain as far back as 1512, well before the racecourse itself was established.
