Nestled just 16 miles from the bustling city of London, Kempton Park is a beloved racing venue located in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. With its picturesque surroundings including two lakes and vast meadows, it's a favorite spot for racing fans year-round.

At Kempton, there are two distinct tracks: a floodlit all-weather circuit and a grass-covered jumps course for varied racing thrills.

Kempton Park Racecourse Jumps Track

The National Hunt layout consists of a rightward-turning triangle that is mainly flat, stretching about 1 mile and 5 furlongs. It's home to several major races throughout the year, notably the King George VI Chase held on Boxing Day.

Kempton All Weather Track

Introduced in 2006, the all-weather track at Kempton is available for flat races between March and November. This right-handed oval course, under the lights, spans either 8 or 10 furlongs depending on if the inner or outer loop is chosen.

The track features a Polytrack surface that resembles Tapeta, making it a preferred choice for its speedy and fair racing conditions.

Kempton Park Feature Races

Kempton hosts events throughout the year, highlighted by some prominent races that capture significant attention.

Among the prestigious events is the National Hunt King George VI Chase, held every Boxing Day. The Grade 1 race covers a 3-mile distance featuring 18 hurdles, famously won five times by Kauto Star and four by Desert Orchid.

The Kauto Star Novices’ Chase, another fan favorite on the same day as the King George, saw Lizzie Kelly making history as the first female jockey to clinch a Grade 1 victory with her ride, Tea For Two, in 2015.

The Desert Orchid Chase, paying homage to a legendary winner of the King George, occurs on December 27th. This Grade 2 race challenges horses with 12 jumps across a 2-mile course.
