Historically, the racing in Leicester arose at Victoria Park, with records dating back to 1773. However, the relocation to Oadby where the current track lies occurred in 1883.

Leicester Racecourse

Leicester Racetrack features a circuit around 1 mile and 5 furlongs, designed as an oval and right-handed. The straight 7 furlong track starts with a descent and transitions to an ascent halfway, before flattening out for the final 1.5 furlongs.

The jump track boasts 10 fences, including two open ditches and a single water jump, with the races held on the flat course.

Leicester Feature Races

Each year, Leicester Racetrack is home to 30 racing gatherings, bustling with activity. Highlighting them all is the prestigious King Richard III Stakes, a 7 furlong and 9 yard race held every April, known by different names in the past, it honors the discovery of King Richard III's remains in Leicester in 2013.
