Southampton was a founding member of the Premier League in 1992, and they maintained that status for thirteen years until dropping to the Championship, where they remained for five seasons.
When the Saints clawed their way back to the Premier League in 2012, Mauricio Pochettino, previously managing teams like Spurs and PSG, took the helm. He revitalized Southampton, and during the following four seasons, they consistently finished in the top 8, peaking at 6th place in 2016.
The past six years have been tough on Southampton supporters; each season saw them languishing in the lower half of the league. Their 20th-place finish in the 2022/23 season led to relegation, but they made a swift return to the Premier League after just one season, clinching promotion via playoff success.
After parting ways with Russell Martin in December 2024, Southampton brought in Ivan Juric, signing him to an 18-month deal.
Ivan Jurić, a Croatian who transitioned into coaching post-retirement as a player, cut his teeth largely in Italy. From serving as Gian Piero Gasperini's assistant at clubs like Inter Milan and Palermo to leading teams such as Crotone, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Torino, and very recently Roma, his résumé is impressive.
On the 21st of December, 2024, following a heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton installed Jurić as their manager for an 18-month term. This marks his first managerial adventure beyond Italian borders.
Given that Ivan Juric is now steering Southampton FC, it seems improbable for the club to be on the hunt for another new manager. Yet, with their ongoing challenges this season, should Juric not turn the tide, his tenure may come under scrutiny as the season progresses.
