West Ham United stands among the select few clubs to have played over 300 Premier League matches. Despite enduring a couple of relegations, this club has experienced a mix of highs and lows over the years.
The club’s last significant silverware was the FA Cup triumph in 1980, although they added the Intertoto Cup to their collection in 1999.
Since 2015, West Ham has seen a rotation of six managers, with David Moyes making a notable return stint among them.
Currently leading West Ham is Graham Potter. His playing days saw him as a left-back with 307 caps, including a spell in the Premier League with Southampton and an appearance for England’s U21 squad.
Potter’s venture into management began in Sweden with Östersund in 2011. There he achieved commendable success with promotions and a Svenska Cupen title. Later, he led Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion before taking the reins at Chelsea in September 2022, a role that concluded in April 2023 after underwhelming results.
Following 21 months away from managing, Potter took over as head coach for West Ham United on January 9, 2025, on a two-and-a-half-year deal. He replaced Julen Lopetegui, whose lackluster team performance saw the squad sitting 14th in the league.
During his managerial hiatus, Potter waited patiently for the right opportunity, considering West Ham to be the perfect fit for him.
Joining Potter at West Ham is his coaching crew, with Narcis Pelach from Stoke City as a first-team coach, Bruno Saltor acting as his assistant, and Billy Reid as another first-team coach.
Accomplished manager Graham Potter is expected to have time to implement his vision for West Ham. At present, he isn’t among the favourites for the sack race managers being scrutinized much given his recent appointment.
But should circumstances lead to Potter’s exit, who would be his successor?
Below, we assess potential candidates and the current odds for who might be next to manage West Ham .
